Andhra Pradesh Class IV Employees Union on Monday said that they would observe August 15, Independence Day, as a 'Black Day', in protest against the state government's failure to address their grievances.
Talking to INN, Union president P Raju said that the government had neglected the part-time workers to such an extent that neither have their salaries been hiked, nor have any of them been promoted since the last two decades.
Raju stated, "The state government officials are aware of our plight, since we had made many representations to them in the form of memorandums highlighting our grievances."
The Union president says that despite the regular requests to the government to look into the workers' problems, there has been no action whatsoever. He added that the Union has decided to observe the Black Day, hoping that at least this step would wake the government up from its slumber.
Raju said that more than 150 workers, some of them physically-challenged, were living in hope that their jobs would be regularized.
The Union president said that all part-time workers have been requested to get ready to stage protests against the government's inaction from August 13.
Meanwhile, the regularised workers also extended their support to the proposed protests by the part-time employees.
Raju said that the part-time workers would submit a 'final' memorandum to the officials, and that if no action is still taken to fulfill their demands, then they would gherao the Commissionerate on August 16.
