AP has been adjudged the "Top Investment & Infra Excellent State in Energy & Power 2014-15", and the APGenco & APTransco chief, Best Power Bureaucrat.
In yet another milestone for it in the power sector, Andhra Pradesh has been adjudged as the "Top Investment & Infra Excellent State in Energy & Power 2014-15", and KVijayanand, IAS, Managing Director of APGenco and CMD of APTransco, has been given the "Best Performing Bureaucrat Affecting Sector Transformation - STATE" award under the auspices of the "9th ENERTIA National Awards 2015 - India's & South Asia's Awards for Sustainable Energy & Power".
Under the leadership of Vijayanand, the two most important organizations of the State in the power sector - APTransco & APGenco - have excelled in operational performance and have become the mainstay for the implementation of sustained 24x7 power for all (PFA) programs, the award committee stated.
The management acumen of Vijayanand, coupled with his leadership qualities, had been recognised by the jury of the awards, the Chief of the Jury of Awards said.
APGenco was adjudged the winner in the "Best Performing Utilities - Power Generation" category in the same event.
While receiving the prestigious national award from Shyam Jaju, MP & BJP Vice-President; Prof A G Ayyar, Editor-in-Chief of Enertia; K Ravi Kumar, former CMD, BHEL; and jury member Yogendra Prasad, former CMD NHPC; at a function held in New Delhi, Vijayanand stated that the unstinted support of the State government and the able leadership provided by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in taking bold steps for correcting the deficit situation and improving the performance of the power utilities in realizing the dream of 24x7 power supply on a sustained basis, had resulted in making AP the best destination for infrastructure and investments in the country.
"As a humble gesture, I feel proud to dedicate this prestigious national award to the Government of AP, which has given clear-cut directions and support to the power utilities, and rededicate myself to the success of the power sector. Achieving these awards has been possible with the support of the entire employees' community of the utilities. These awards place more responsibility on me to strive better for the service of the State in particular in the power sector. And I thank all my officers and staff working in the power utilities for their full cooperation and support in this regard," he added.
In tune with the directions of the Chief Minister in extending reliable & quality 24x7 power supply of global standards to consumers, which is essential for attracting investment for the economic growth of the State, the AP government has finalized an action plan to increase the installed capacity in the State from the existing level of 9,486 MW to 29,017 MW by March 2019. Out of this, APGenco itself planned to achieve 2,200 MW in the thermal & another 1,010 MW in the hydel sectors, Vijayanand said.
APGENCO was further contemplating adding 11,210 MW at an estimated cost of Rs. 64,182 crores in the next 10 years, he added. Also, the German government had shown an interest to support APGenco by providing innovative power generation technologies.
All arrangements have been made for the laying of the foundation stone for an 800 MW super-united boiler at VTPS under Stage VI soon by the Chief Minister.
During 2014-15, APGenco thermal plants have achieved a combined Plant Load Factor (PLF) of 80.71%, which is higher than the PLF of 80.23% achieved by NTPC. For the same period, the national-level average PLF slid below 60% in the aftermath of the coal crises in the country.
APGenco is targeting enhancing the overall PLF of thermal plants to 90%.
