After Rohith Vemula, another student of the University Of Hyderabad, Nelli Praveen, who was pursuing his first year in Masters Of Fine Arts, supposedly committed suicide in his hostel room.
Son of a BSNL employee, Praveen hailed from Jawahar Nagar Colony in Shadnagar town of the Mahabubnagar district. He was admitted to the university in the month of June, and had spoken to his parents three days ago, his younger brother Naveen said.
According to the authorities, Praveen's roommate reached the hostel during the early hours of Saturday and knocked the door. When he did not get a response, he got suspicious and alerted his floor mates. Some of the students gathered at the door and peeped through the ventilator to find Praveen hanging from the ceiling fan.
The boys broke open the door and took him to the university's Resident Medical Officer (RMO), who performed first-aid and got the victim shifted to a nearby private hospital. The doctors there pronounced him dead-on-arrival.
Later, the body was shifted to the Osmania General Hospital for autopsy.
The police said that no suicide note was found in Praveen's room. "The reasons behind Praveen's suicide are not known yet. We are still investigating," a police officer at the Gachibowli PS said.
