Expressing astonishment at the Justice Roopanwala Single Person Commission report which stated that late PhD scholar Rohith Vemula, who committed suicide in 2015 on grounds of caste-based discrimination, was not a dalit, the CPI Telangana State Council Secretary Chada Venkat Reddy termed the report "deceptive".
Speaking to the media, Reddy pointed out that the Vemula's native district's Collector and the National SC Commission had made it clear that he was from the SC community.
"It seems that the commission has deliberately prepared a incorrect report to protect Union Ministers Smriti Irani and Bandaru Dattatreya and HCU Vice-Chancellor P Appa Rao. The Centre is rubbishing the case despite the evidence to suggest that Vemula belonged to dalit community," he said.
Alleging that the BJP at the centre and the HCU VC had abetted Vemula's suicide, he asked students to "wage a war against discriminative policies against pupils of the weaker sections of the society".
