Rohith Vemula Death Anniversary: HCU Sees Tensions
The police came to control the protests that began in university campus, leading to a tense atmosphere.

Tensions prevailed at the Hyderabad Central University (HCU) as students in large numbers came to pay tributes to Vemula Rohith, the dalit PhD student who committed suicide on January 17, 2016. The students raised slogans, "justice to Rohit's family".
On Tuesday, the students went joined a rally from the hostels to the main gate and tried to venture outside the campus. Students and professors from other colleges, and leaders from various people's unions also reached the university premises. However, the local police obstructed them, leading to tensions.
The police also obstructed the activists of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) who were present there and various student unions at the main gate the latter tried to enter the university premises to participate in the Rohit death anniversary program. Students from inside the campus and AAP activists from the outside staged protests.
Additional police forces rushed to the university to bring the situation under control. The students raised slogans saying, "police go back". But the police obstructed the students citing the lack of permissions to protest or meet. Furious, the students raised slogans against the police.
