Social activist Anna Hazare was arrested from his home at 7:30am on Tuesday morning, making the nation erupt in fury.
Plainclothes policemen arrested Anna Hazare, minutes before he was leaving for the anti-corruption fast, taking him to an undisclosed location. They arrested him from Supreme Enclave at Mayur Vihar in New Delhi, and tried to take him in a white Innova, but were blocked by angry crowds.
74-year-old Anna has not eaten or consumed any liquid since morning.
Anna Hazare was produced before a Special Executive Magistrate at Police Mess in north Delhi.
Both Houses of Parliament were adjourned today, and the Oposition has demanded a statement from the Prime Minister.
Anna, meanwhile, has made a public appeal on video, asking people to come forward in peaceful protest.
However, a second line of leaders, comprising Kiran Bedi, Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and Shanti Bhushan were also arrested and taken to Police Mess.
The Delhi Police has imposed Section 144 at several places in the city, including at Rajghat and Delhi Gate.
Several pockets of citizens across the country are now protesting in support of Anna Hazare.
