The CM calls for arrangements for the supply of additional power from the National Thermal Power Corporation.
Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy directed chief secretary Minnie Mathew and senior officials of the energy department to ensure that arrangements are put in place for the supply of additional power from the National Thermal Power Corporation.
In a media release, the chief minister's office said that 797 MW of power will be added by the end of July, which will provide relief to the situation in the state.
Additional power expected to be generated in the next few days is:
NTPC-Simhadri 3 and 4 units - 420 MW
Ramagundam - 60 MW
Talcher - 107 MW
RTPP - 210 MW
The chief minister, on Friday, had a dicussion with NTPC director (Commercial) I J Kapoor, and requested additional power for the state. Kapoor reportedly promised him that NTPC units would gear up in the next few days and ensure a supply of around 800 MW. Also, an additional 100 MW from Jhajjar can be allotted to AP, he said.
Kiran Kumar Reddy also reviewed issues of the power sector, at a high level meeting at the state Secretariat. Minister for Housing Uttam Kumar Reddy, chief secretary Minnie Mathew, principal secretary (Energy) Dinesh Kumar, secretary (Finance) Pushpa Subramaniam, AP Genco MD K Vijayanand and other senior officials attended the meeting.
Reddy directed officials to speed up the work the of RNLG floating terminal at Kakinada, which is expected to commence by December 2013, and is being built to for import of RLNG.
He also asked the Finance department to sanction the government's dues to DISCOMS.
The CM also directed officials to speed up the synchronization of private plants, to add additional capacity and to encourage non-conventional energy projects like solar and wind power generation units.
The officials informed the CM that hydel generation has been badly affected because of adverse monsoon conditions, and the lack of water in Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar. The situation is expected to improve in August, they said.
They also said that gas from the Reliance KG D-6 field has reduced substantially, resulting in a shortfall of 1,600 MW - which is responsible for the present crisis.
Against 7 MMSCMD (Million Matric Standard Cubic Metre Per Day) of gas, only 2.95 MMSCMD is being supplied. The CM directed officials to ensure that additional power reaches the state at the earliest. He also said that other alternatives like solar and wind energy must be worked out. (INN)
