Attributing the ongoing power crisis in the state to a lack of foresight in his own government, Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana, on Monday, apologised to the people of the state for the grim situation.
Talking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan, Satyanarayana said that the Congress government was striving hard to overcome the crisis, and that chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy is in New Delhi to discuss it with top leaders.
He clarified that natural resources like gas are currently under the control of private companies rather than the government, and that this is why the situation had worsened.
Stressing the need for urgent reforms in the present national policies towards the allotment of gas in India, the PCC chief said that a large quantum of natural resources ought to be allocated for domestic purposes only.
He rued the fact that the state government will have to bear a loss of 400 MW of power due to the Centre's decision in allotting gas from the KG Basin to Maharashtra's Ratnagiri power plant.
"The state government will have to bear additional expenses to purchase gas from other sources instead of from KG Basin, because of the central government's patronage towards Maharashtra," he remarked.
He also attributed the present crisis to the deficit in rainfall this year. (INN)
