Andhra Pradesh Education Minister Ganta Srinivas Rao on Wednesday informed that as many as 11 institutions of higher education would be set up across the residuary State.
Speaking to media persons after assuming charge in the State Secretariat in Hyderabad, the minister said that the institutions to be established in Andhra Pradesh included a National Institute of Technology, an Indian Institute of Management, an All Institute Of Medical Sciences, an Indian Institute of Information Technology, a Central University and an Agriculture University.
He said that these institutions would be set up in the Visakhapatnam, Krishna, Guntur and Chittoor districts.
Institutions focusing on the petroleum industry would be set up in Kakinada, while Vizag would be the hub of medical education, he said.
Ganta said that the process of acquisition of land for different institutes had been initiated. He said that the IIM would be established on 12 acres, the IIIT on 100 acres, the Agriculture University on 500 acres, the National Disaster Management Institute on 10 acres, the Central University on 300 acres in Tirupati and the AIIMS on 200 acres of land.
Speaking about the fee reimbursement scheme, the minister said that the Telangana government had not come out with clarity on the schemes, and had said only that the scheme would be extended exclusively to Telangana students. However, he said that the Andhra Pradesh government would conduct an all-party meeting on the issue after the upcoming Assembly session. (INN)
