The state cabinet, which met in Hyderabad on Friday evening, took several important decisions under the leadership of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.
The cabinet meeting, that lasted for nearly 3 hours, took a few decisions which might have several political implications in the future. Sources say that the PCC president, Botsa Satyanarayana, and Panchayat Raj minister, K Jana Reddy expressed dissatisfaction over the Bangaru Talli scheme.
However, as had been anticipated, there was no discernible conflict in the cabinet meeting, and the issue of D L Ravindra Reddy's dismissal from the cabinet did not figure in the agenda.
In an informal chat with reporters, Information & Public Relations minister D K Aruna stated that the Chief Minister had announced during the meeting that the cabinet would meet once every 15 days in the future.
The cabinet also cancelled the lands allotted to Brahmani Industries at Jamallamudugu in YSR Kadapa district. The allotment of 10,760.66 acres of land at Vemaguntappli, Kothaguntappali, P Mommepalli, and Thugutlapalli in Jammalamadugu Mandal was cancelled. The cabinet said that the reason for the cancellation of the alloted land was that the company had failed to comply with the terms and conditions of the MoU.
Similarly, the cabinet also approved the cancellation of the 250 acres of land in Survey No. 288 of Mucherla village (Ranga Reddy district) which had been allotted to Georgia Institute of Technology, USA. The cabinet said that the institute had failed to pay the value fixed by the government.
The cabinet approved the draft bill for the establishment of an independent commission for STs under the title "Andhra Pradesh State Commission for Scheduled Tribes", in order to protect the rights and interests of the STs, and to undertake a review of the implementation of the policies pursued by the union and the state government.
The cabinet also approved the draft to amend the AP State Commission for SCs and STs Act, 2003.
Amongst other things, the cabinet approved the allotment of 2 acres of land at Gajularamaram (V) and Qutubullapur (M) for homes of families of police personnel who had lost their lives during the shootout in Chitrakonda village on January 29, 2008. Each family will get 200 square yards of land.
The state cabinet also approved the AP Public Safety (Measures) Enforcement Bill, 2013. The bill extends to whole areas of the GHMC, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, the GVMC and others areas which are notified by the government from time to time.
The act makes it mandatory for managements of establishments to provide access controls and CCTV surveillance cameras at their entry and exit points, and in parking areas.
Managements will have to file periodical returns showing that public safety measures have been provided as per the government's instructions. The Inspector of police will be empowered to inspect and check the installations.
Besides all these, the cabinet also took several other important decisions. (INN)
