Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal, on Tuesday, stated that an average of 80% polling was reported till the end of the by-elections, in the Lok Sabha constituency Nellore and 18 Assembly segments in the state.
Talking to media persons at the State Secretariat after the by-elections, the Chief Electoral Officer said that the by-polls, by and large, had passed off peacefully in all the constituencies, barring minor incidents of violence.
He said that Ramachandrapuram Assembly constituency in East Godavari district topped in the percentage of voting, with 86%, and that Tirupati constituency had registered the lowest percentage of 55.
The following percentages of voting were reported constituency wise: Rayachoti — 80, Anantapur (Urban) — 65, Rayadurgam — 82, Narsapuram — 79, Udayagiri — 75, Macherla — 81, Emmiganur — 76, Ongole — 82, Narsannapeta — 74, Payakaraopeta - 82, Polavaram — 75, Prattipadu — 76, Rajampeta — 79, Railway Kodur — 74, Allagadda - 80 and Parakala - 84. The Nellore Parliament constituency recorded 68% voting.
The polling percentage was higher in these by-polls, compared to earlier elections, thanks to awareness created by the media, he stated.
He said that some people had boycotted the by-elections in 4 places.
Out of 5,413 polling stations, 5,000 stations were covered by web cameras. Green Technologies and Sadhana Technologies had provided technical support in this regard, Bhanwarlal said.
He also stated that no one has lodged a complaint so far, seeking re-polling, in any Assembly constituency.
In case a party lodges a complaint seeking re-election from any of the places where polling was boycotted, under Form No. 17A, the EC would seek the Central Election Commission's advice, he said.
The counting of votes would be done on 15 June at 8am, and results will be announced on the same day, he said. (INN)
