Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy introduced another social welfare scheme today for the poor of the state - the YSR Bima scheme.
The scheme aims to provide relief to the families of unorganized workers in case of death or disability of a worker.
Reddy launched the scheme at his camp office.
The insurance scheme will benefit all those with rice cards, with the state government paying the premium of the card-holder as eligible under the scheme.
Speaking on the occasion, the CM said that the government had launched the scheme to help the poor unorganised workers of the state despite its financial constraints, due to Covid-19.
The impact of the coronavirus on the poor had made his government decide to roll out the scheme despite the union government bowing out of it, and the state having to therefore bear its entire cost, he said.
The government would spend Rs 510 crore per annum for the implementation of the scheme, and it would benefit 1.41 crore families of the state, covering those in the age group of 18-70 years, he said.
He added that the government would display the list of the beneficiaries in all the village secretariats.
The details of the scheme are available at bima.ap.gov.in/About.aspx
