As part of the Andhra Pradesh Government's plans to have 14 new airports in the State, Union Civil Aviation Minister P Ashok Gajapathi Raju met Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu at the latter's camp office on Saturday.
The Chief Minister discussed the issues of land acquisition and the infrastructure facilities required for the new airports planned by the government.
Even investments into the airports and the revenues from them to the State government were discussed.
The Chief Minister said that the State would have 14 airports. Of these, 3 would be international airports at Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati, and 11 would be in different districts.
Speaking to media persons later, the Civil Aviation Minister added that the international airports' construction at Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati was promised by the earlier UPA 2 government, and was being implemented by the NDA government.
Raju added that land would be required for the runway expansion of the Vijayawada airport, and infrastructure upgradation was also needed.
He also said that airport development was the responsibility of the Centre, and the State would need to cooperate by providing the land required for the airport. (INN)
