Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy, on Tuesday, stated that the by-elections to 18 Assembly constituencies and one Parliamentary constituency in the state passed off peacefully, barring a few incidents of group clashes, pelting of stones and damage to a police vehicle in Warangal Urban Police District.
In a media statement, the DGP stated that no major incident related to the elections took place, and that the police had acted in a timely manner and dealt with all situations firmly to ensure that the polls are conducted in a fair and free manner.
A total of 108 vehicles and 127 persons were taken into preventive custody in Nellore District, he said.
Apart from the above, one election-related case was registered in Srikakulam District, 2 in Warangal (Rural), 1 in Warangal (Urban), 2 in Tirupati, and one case each in East Godavari and Prakasam (a total of 9 cases).
Tight measures have been taken to prevent the flow of liquor and the distribution of money, he stated. (INN)
