The Forum for Good Governance (FGG) has raised serious concerns over what it termed the "abnormally high" expenditure of Rs 5.91 crore incurred for the Jubilee Hills Assembly by-election by the District Election Authority.
In a representation to the Telangana Chief Electoral Officer, FGG President M Padmanabha Reddy today said that the spending pattern indicated wasteful expenditure, and called for a full audit of the accounts.
In its representation, the FGG said that no new staff or vehicles were hired, no large-scale staff movement took place, and the constituency was not extremist-affected and was an urban segment located in central Hyderabad.
Given these factors, Reddy said that the expenditure was far beyond requirement, and argued that taxpayer money needed to be fully accounted for.
The forum urged the CEO to order an audit into the spending by the District Election Authority.
