An all-party' meeting on Saturday threatened to launch a mass movement if the TRS government did not retract its proposed cheap liquor policy.
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrashehar Rao was planning to play with the health of the people of Telangana with the policy.
The all-party meeting was organized against the TRS government's cheap liquor policy at Kalinga Bhavan beside the TRS headquarters on Saturday. Leaders from the Congress, BJP, Telangana TDP, Left parties, Aam Aadmi Party and several voluntary organizations participated in the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, Uttam Kumar Reddy demanded that the state government elicit the opinion of the all-party meeting on the proposed cheap liquor policy.
He also said that the Congress would fight for the sake of the people's health and welfare.
Telangana TDP leader Errabelli Dayakar Rao said that the anti-cheap liquor movement would be launched from Gajwel, the Chief Minister's home constituency, soon.
BJP leader Dr K Laxman, and Congress former MPs Ponnam Prabhakar and S Rajaiah, too, participated in the meeting.
The leaders said they would expose the misdeeds of the ruling party and government in the upcoming Assembly session.
On the occasion, the meeting set up an "Anti-Cheap Liquor Movement Steering Committee".
Prof P L Vishweshwar Rao was elected as committee chairman unanimously.
