All arrangements had been made to start purchasing paddy from the State's farmers, said Telangana Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, the minister said that paddy had been cultivated in about 36 lakh acres across the State during the Rabi season, and that the government estimated that about 65 lakh metric tonnes of paddy had been grown.
"There is a need of 15 crore gunny bags for the paddy procurement, and as of now 1.6 crore gunny bags are ready. We are trying to arrange the remaining bags as early as possible," Kamalakar said.
The minister also said that the State government was setting up 51 border check posts across Telangana in a bid to curb the illegal entry of other vehicles brining in paddy into the State for sale to the State government.
