Arguments over a petition filed by the Nirmal Police seeking a 7-day custody of Akbaruddin Owaisi in the hate speech case were completed in the Nirmal court on Friday.
The arguments over a petition filed by the Nirmal Police seeking a 7-day custody of MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi in the hate speech case were completed in the Nirmal court on Friday.
Akbar's lawyers objected to the contention of Nirmal police which sought Akbar's custody for further investigation. They argued that the speech was made at a public meeting and, therefore, police custody for the MIM MLA was not required.
The court is yet to pronounce its judgment on the custody petition.
Meanwhile, the court has adjourned the hearing to January 16 on a petition filed by Akbaruddin Owaisi seeking the status of a special prisoner.
It may be mentioned that the MIM leader was arrested by the Nirmal Police on January 8 in a case of making inflammatory speeches and was remanded to judicial custody till January 22 by a magistrate. He has been booked under seven serious charges including sedition. Presently, he is lodged in the Adilabad District Jail. (INN)
