The state government, on Wednesday, assured the House that rules would be tightened with regard to the buildings and transport system in schools across Andhra Pradesh.
Replying to the concerns raised by MLAs across party lines, over the safety of children travelling in school buses, School Education Minister K Parathasarathy said that the Transport Department has been asked to inspect school buses and other means of transport being used by schools across AP.
He said that the management of
L V Reddy Memorial School of Khammam has been served a notice for de-recognition, following the bus accident that claimed the lives of 8 children on Tuesday.
Further, he said, a detailed enquiry was being conducted into the incident.
Earlier, CPM floor J Ranga Reddy gave an adjournment motion seeking a discussion on the tragic school bus accident. However, while disallowing the motion, Speaker Nadendla Manohar asked the government to give a statement on the issue.
Legislative Affairs Minister D Sridhar Babu said that the government has already announced ex-gratia for the families of the deceased, and that it would take care of all medical expenses of students injured in the accident.
On behalf of the House, he condoled the death of the 8 kids in the accident.
TDP deputy floor leader Gali Muddukrishnama Naidu said that the state government must take steps to ensure the safety of the transport system in schools. Further, he pointed out that several schools were functioning in buildings which were in a dilapidated condition.
Similar views were expressed by the MIM floor Akbaruddin Owaisi, TRS MLA Ravindra, CPI's G Mallesh and the BJP's E Lakshminarayana. (INN)
