The City Police on Thursday unraveled the mystery behind the death of Osmania University student Aruna, who was found murdered in a house in Rajiv Gandhi Nagar of Uppuguda at Chatrinaka on December 31.
Addressing a press conference here, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Zone) Akun Sabharwal said that Aruna was murdered by her classmate Shiva Kumar. Disclosing the details, he said that Aruna went to her native place at Nalgonda on December 17 as her father expired, and returned to the city after 10 days. On December 28, she came to Shiva Kumar’s house at Chatrinaka.
Shiva was alone at his house as his family members had gone to his sister’s house at Miridhoddi of Medak district on December 25. The DCP said that investigations revealed that Shiva Kumar murdered Aruna between 8.30 and 9pm on December 29. Later, he contacted his younger brother Prabhu informing him that he killed Aruna, and sought his help. Prabha, in turn, contacted his friend Praveen to secure a car to dispose the dead body.
Since Prabhu and Praveen failed to arrange a car, Shiva Kumar himself went to his native place on his motorcycle and picked Prabhu. They came to Uppuguda on December 30 at around 3.30am and went to meet Praveen. All three of them went to the site of offence and tried to conceal the dead body by digging a grave with spades available in their house at the backside of their house near the drainage canal. As some neighbours woke up in the early morning and saw them, they failed to dispose the body.
Finally, the accused locked the house and went away in early hours. Based on some leads, the City Police arrested Prabhu and his friend Praveen.
The DCP said that the police got some good leads on the location of prime accused Shiva and hoped that he would be arrested soon. However, he said that the motive behind the murder was yet to be ascertained. (INN)
