Telangana hit eight Omicron cases today.
Talking to media persons at his Koti office, Director of Health Srinivasa Rao allayed fears of the rising number of infections in the state saying that the Omicron variant, while highly infectious, was not fatal. He appealed to the people to avoid fear and doubts, and wear masks as the virus spread through the air.
"Though the cases are rising, there is no need to panic, as the government is ready to tackle the situation. The cases in Telangana comprise mostly of people who came from non-risk nations like the Czech Republic, UK, Sudan, Kenya and Somalia. The patients have been shifted to the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) for treatment," Rao said.
Rao added that the officials concerned had taken all necessary and possible measures, setting up extra vigil at the airport and equipping government hospitals with more facilities, medicines and staff. He still exhorted the people to be cautious by wearing masks and following the coronavirus protocols.
The director added that the state had so far administered 4.19 crore vaccine doses to its people. 97% of the adults people had received at least one dose, and more than 56% had received both doses.
