Polling for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Telangana came to an end at 5 pm (except in Nizamabad) today peacefully.
The 2019 general elections are scheduled to take place in seven phases in India, and the first was over today in 91 Lok Sabha constituencies in 20 States, including all 17 Lok Sabha constituencies in Telangana.
While 16 constituencies completed the polling process in time (5 pm), the voting in Nizamabad, where 185 candidates are in the fray, continued till 6 pm as allowed, with people in some booths voting as late as at 7:30 pm as they had joined the queues by 6 pm.
Due perhaps to the summer heat, the voter turnout in the State was low compared to that in the December 2018 Assembly elections. The polling percentage was put at 61% in Telangana overall, much lesser than the 73% for the Assembly elections. And the voter turnout in Hyderabad was just 40%, a historic low - the majority of people seemed to feel absolutely clueless about the privilege that a voting right is.
