Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, on Wednesday, expressed shock over the road accident at Jonnada in East Godavari district, which claimed 6 lives.
In a media statement, the chief minister directed the East Godavari district collector and the superintendent of police to provide better medical facilities to the injured who are undergoing treatment at the Government General Hospital in Rajahmundry.
Expressing serious concern over the accident, he also directed the district collector to order a probe into the mishap and submit a report to him.
In the accident, which took place at Alamuru mandal in Jonnada, in the wee hours of Wednesday, two lorries had a head-on collision on a bridge, and fell into the adjoining canal, killing 6 labourers and injuring 11 others.
At the time of the mishap, a lorry was carrying 20 labourers for work to nearby farms in the district. The identities of the victims are yet to be ascertained, police said.
According to hospital sources, the condition of a few injured is critical. (INN)
