Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu directed Reliance executives to study the feasibility of 4G services in the State and roll them out by April 2015.
Reliance executives Rajiv Luthra and Raghu Raja met the Chief Minister at the Secretariat on Friday and informed him that Reliance had 502 cell phone towers in the State. They requested the Chief Minister to grant them permission to upgrade these towers to 4G.
Following this, the Chief Minister directed DGP J V Ramudu to ensure that the required permissions were granted.
Stating that 4G services would play a crucial role in creating a smart Andhra Pradesh, the Chief Minister said that the services would initially be provided in all hospitals and educational institutions.
He added that the State's police could also use 4G services to bring down the crime rate in the State.
He added that the 4G services would be rolled out in three phases, and that the first phase would cover all municipalities.
He directed Reliance's executives to ensure that the services began by April 1, 2015.
