BRS president and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today alleged that 49% share in the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) went to the union government due to non-repayment of debts by the Congress rulers in the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh.
Addressing a public meeting at Kothagudem on Sunday, the Chief Minister said that Singareni Collieries was started during the era of the Nizam rulers and had a 134-year history. After independence, Congress governments in the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh had taken loans from the Centre but did not repay them for 30-40 years, which led the State to lose 49% share in the collieries.
After the formation of Telangana State, the collieries had been transformed completely, KCR claimed. The turnover of the company was Rs 11,000 crore during the Congress regime, but was Rs 33,000 crore today. And the profits had grown from Rs 419 crore to Rs 2,184 crore.
"Also, the profit distributed to the workers earlier was Rs 60-70 crore annually. But for this Dasara we have distributed Rs 700 crore of the profit," KCR said.
He also said that prior to the creation of Telangana State, the jobs created in the SCCL were just 6,400, and that after the formation of Telangana State, the BRS government had given jobs to 19,463 people. Apart from this, 22,000 people living in the Singareni areas had been given house titles, he claimed.
The CM urged the people to cast their vote for development and give the BRS a third consecutive term in the upcoming Assembly elections.
