On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on Friday, the nation's largest flag, a 4.85 km-long tricolour, was exhibited on Necklace Road around the Hussain Sagar lake.
The flag was rolled out by thousands of students on Necklace Road in an event held under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs, the Telangana State government and the Khadi industry.
The event was witnessed by personnel from the Asia Book of Records, the Bharat Book of Records and the Viswa Guru Book of Records.
Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya, and Telangana ministers Jupally Krishna Rao and T Mahender Reddy were present.
The organizers revealed that the flag entered the record books as the largest national flag.
Speaking on this occasion, Jupally Krishna Rao exhorted people to extend a helping hand to the Khadi & handloom industries by wearing cotton clothes.
Dattatreya said that the Centre would also strive towards this end.
