The CEIR portal was developed by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to tackle mobile theft and counterfeit devices. The nationwide CEIR portal was officially launched on May 17, 2023. Telangana was however chosen as the pilot for the CEIR implementation, and so the portal started operating in the State on April 19, 2023, before the nationwide launch. Mahesh Bhagwat, Additional DGP, CID, was designated as the Nodal Officer for the CEIR portal in the State.
Since the launch of the portal in Telangana, within 95 days so far, over 4,083 lost/missing mobile phones have been traced and returned to their rightful owners. The last 1,000 mobiles detected were found in just 16 days. And Telangana is currently second in the country in the detection of mobile devices through the portal.
All the police units across the State contributed to the tracing of lost/stolen mobile phones. However, considerable contributions have come from the Cyberabad Commissionarate (554 mobile devices), the Rachakonda Commissionerate (321 mobile devices), the Warangal Commissionerate (300 mobile devices) and the Hyderabad Commissionerate (265 mobile devices).
To enhance user-friendliness and serve the citizens more efficiently, the Telangana police, in coordination with the DoT, have successfully integrated the CEIR application with the TS police citizen portal. Citizens are therefore being encouraged to utilize the service on the TS police citizen portal instead of visiting MeeSeva centres or police stations for reporting lost or missing mobile devices.
