The police has seized 34 bags full of spent gun cartridges from the DRA Steel Factory at Menakur village in the Nellore district on Tuesday.
According to Sub-Inspector Rosaiah, the spent cartridges were part of the scrap material that had been brought from the Chennai Port area to the factory to be melted.
The factory workers had rejected the cartridges because of the difference in the metal. The factory authorities then informed the police who rushed to the spot and took possession of the 34 bags.
Sub-Inspector Rosaiah said that preliminary investigations reveal that the spent cartridges may have been imported from foreign countries, since a few bullets had "Made In USA" inscriptions on them.
According to sources, the state government has deputed a DSP to find out how the cartridges had made their way to the steel factory.
The sources say that the investigation is being done to make sure that the consignment had not originated from some Maoists who might have used the bullets, and might have disposed the spent cartridges as scrap. (INN)
