The much-awaited Covid-19 vaccine today reached Hyderabad, days ahead of the state-wide vaccination drive commencement on January 16.
The Telangana government today received the first consignment of 3.72 lakh doses of the Covid-19 vaccine Covishield developed by the Pune-based Serum Institute.
The consignment was brought to the Shamshabad International Airport on a special SpiceJet cargo flight, and was then reportedly shifted to a 40-cubic-metre vaccine cooler with the capacity to hold 1.5 crore vaccines, in Koti for storage.
Health officials will be administering the vaccine to 13,900 beneficiaries through 139 centres across the state on the first day of the immunisation drive. In subsequent days, however, the vaccine will be administered at 1,213 centres for four days a week, from 9 am to 4 pm.
The Telangana administration has been taking several steps to facilitate the upcoming immunisation drive in the state. As part of these efforts, it conducted
a dry run for the administration of the vaccine some days back. And, just today, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar held a review meeting with the state's district Collectors to scrutinise the preparations for the same.
