3 Idols Stolen From Warangal Temple
3 "Panchaloha" idols, worth Rs. 30 lakhs, have been stolen from the Venugopal Swamy temple in the Nagapuri village of the Cherial mandal in the Warangal district.
Unidentified persons stole 3 "panchaloha" idols from the Venugopal Swamy temple in the Nagapuri village of the Cherial mandal in the Warangal district late on Thursday night. The antique idols are believed to be worth more than Rs. 30 lakhs in the international market.
According to Sub-Inspector Narender Reddy, the thieves had made their way into the temple by breaking the lock, and had fled with 3 panchaloha idols of Krishna, Satyabhama and Rukmini.
The theft was noticed early on Friday when priest Venkateshwar arrived to perform the morning rituals, and found the temple doors open. He subsequently alerted the police who rushed to the spot.
Reddy revealed that the Venugopal Swamy temple was about 250 years old, and added that the temple had been managed by the current priest's ancestors, and the responsibility has been passed down through the generations.
The police have registered a case, and a manhunt has been launched to nab the thieves. (INN)
