288 CC cameras installed at a cost of Rs 2.45 crore in the Amberpet Assembly constituency were inaugurated today by union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy.
Speaking on the occasion, Reddy said that all possible steps were being taken across the country to ensure smart policing in the wake of an increase in crimes, and that Hyderabad was one of the eight cities selected for the Safe City funding. He said that the union government would extend direct aid under the scheme.
He also praised the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana police, and said that even many other the central government officials had praised the police forces of the two states before him on several occasions.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar, who was present, said that CC cameras were playing a pivotal role in the investigation of criminal cases in the state.
He added that 30% to 40% of criminal complaints were now being registered through social media apps, and that the usage of face recognition technology to solve cases was continuously increasing.
