Crime Rate In City Down 3%, CCTVs Played Key Role

City Commissioner of Police Anjani Kumar on Thursday said that CC cameras were playing a pivotal role in crime investigation and had helped solve 4,216 cases during the year.

Hyderabad was fully under CCTV surveillance with 3.4 lakh CCTV cameras installed, he added.

Kumar conducted the annual press meet of the Hyderabad police at the Koti Women's College, with all senior IPS officers of the city present. Addressing the media on the occasion, the CP said that compared to the previous year, the crime rate this year had reduced by 3%. 15,598 cases under the penal code had been registered so far in 2019 in Hyderabad. Bodily offences had reduced by 9%, property offences by 2%, automobile offences by 17%, rape cases by 16% (150 cases registered in 2019 as compared to 178 in 2018), and chain snatching cases by 30%, he said.

He also said that the accused in 42% of the cases had been convicted by the courts concerned. 25 accused in 17 criminal cases were sentenced to life imprisonment in the year, he added. And 135 persons were detained under the PD Act.

Stolen property worth over Rs 26 crore was also seized in the year, which was a record, the CP said. Also, 400 child laborers were rescued during the year.

The SHE Teams and Bharosa centers had also delivered excellent results to the city police, he added.

Due to its performance, the Hyderabad Police was adjudged the best in the country, he said.

Talking about traffic offences, Kumar said that 27,737 drink & drive cases were registered during the year, and penalties to the tune of Rs 8.32 crore were realized from the offenders. Of the 2,377 accident cases registered, 261 deaths occurred.
