231 Telangana Mandals Declared Drought-Hit
The government has declared 231 of the 443 mandals in the State as drought-affected, and urged the Centre to provide an immediate aid of Rs 1,000 crores.
The Telangana government has declared 231 of the 443 mandals in the State as drought-affected, and urged the Centre to provide an immediate financial assistance of Rs 1,000 crores.
The declaration of the mandals as drought-affected came at a time when the Centre has been constantly saying that the two Telugu States did not send any drought reports.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao chaired the meeting on this issue at his camp office on Tuesday. Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, the State Chief Secretary and other officials were present.
The Chief Minister finalized the total number of affected areas. It was noted that while the Khammam and Adilabad districts received good rainfall, the Mahabubnagar, Medak and Nizamabad districts were totally drought-hit, and the Karimnagar, Nalgonda and Warangal districts were partially hit. The government did not find any drought-hit mandal in the Khammam and Adilabad districts.
The State government is seeking Rs 1,000 crores from the Centre as aid. It also asked the Centre to send its team to study the loss that occurred due to the drought in the State. The State Government sent a report to the Centre seeking immediate release of the Rs 1,000 crores sought.
