A beaming Principal Secretary (Sports) A K Farida received the Queen's Baton for the 2010 Commonwealth Games (CWG) at the Shamshabad Airport, on Saturday, from the hands of the Raipur Olympic Association authorities.
The Baton was welcomed by a gathering of members of sports unions and fans, as it was taken in a convoy of vehicles through the Acharya N G R University - Masab Tank - Taj Krishna route, where it was to be handed over to ace badminton player Saina Nehwal by Governor ESL Narsimhan.
Saina then started the Baton Relay rally. Cricketer V V S Lakshman and other eminent sportspersons carried the relay rally forward till the last sportsperson, shooter Gagan Narang, hands it over to Chief Minister K Rosaiah.
The Baton Relay Rally started off from the Vijayabhaskar Reddy stadium in Yusufguda, and reach the People's Plaza on the Necklace Road, passing through Maithrivanam, Ameerpet, Punjagutta and Khairatabad.
The Baton will be kept at the Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy to enable the people to have a glimpse.
It will leave for Visakhapatnam at noon on August 15.
