Task Force sleuths, on Tuesday, nabbed 2 persons for pirating newly released films and seized 3,015 pirated CDs and DVDs from their possessions, as part of a special drive.
According to police, sleuths raided New Music World and Super Music Time at Charminar and seized pirated CDs and DVDs of newly released Telugu, English and Hindi movies.
According to police, Mohammed Sajjad (24) and Mohammed Siddiqui were running New Music World and Super Music Time respectively. The duo were arrested.
Talking to media persons, Task force Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Srinivas Rao said that a total of 3,015 CDs and DVDs were seized from the accused. These were inclusive of the copies of the film
Robot, 364 copies of Telugu version and 336 copies of the Hindi version, 428 copies of other Telugu movies like Komaram Puli, Don Seenu, Mariyada Ramanna, Gayam-2, 964 copies of Hindi movies including Dabanng and Anjana-Anjani, and 923 titles in English.
Rao added that the accused used to purchase these copies from their sources in Chennai and Bombay through online transmission, for about Rs. 20 to Rs. 25 each, and resell them at Rs. 50 to Rs. 75 each.
Srinivas Rao said that they used machines able to produce about 100 copies per hour.
The police officer further said that since the accused were not using Indian server, the police were being unable to trap them.
Rao said that in spite of the problems, the police are making their best efforts to catch the culprits, as piracy poses a grave threat to the film industry.
