Film star Rajinikanth categorically negated the idea of joining politics. The popular star who turned 62 yesterday said that he has no interest in political.
He rejected the offer of fans who asked him to float a political party. I am not interested in politics, he politely said at a function the fans organized to celebrate his birthday last night. "What I need is your blessings, and I am grateful to you all,"he told the fans.
Tamil politics has been studded by film personalities for a long period. It was MGR, the actor and M Karunanidhi the writer who succeeded Anna Durai and held their sway from 1960s, relegating Congress to backwaters. After MGR's death, it was Jayalalitha who stepped into MGR's shoes and, of late, Vijaykant made his presence felt.
Kamal Hasan, the other super star with a large following, also said that he is not interested in politics long back, and with Rajinikanth also saying no, it is between an ailing Karunanidhi and Jayalalitha that the filmi politics will rest by. (INN)
