Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has directed the officials to identify and acquire at least 2,000 acres of land to provide housing facility for nearly two lakh poor people.
During a review meeting with the officials held on Wednesday, the Chief Minister enquired with them on the status of the housing facilities for the poor.
He was briefed that as per the Intensive Household Survey done in August last year, nearly two lakh poor people in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad had no permanent houses.
Therefore, the Chief Minister asked the officials to prepare a plan to construct houses for these people.
KCR directed GHMC Commissioner and Special Officer Somesh Kumar to identify and acquire all vacant lands in the city, including in Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills and other posh areas, for the construction of houses for the poor.
He said that no single family in the city should be without a permanent house.
The Chief Minister asked that when hundreds of acres of land could be given to rich people for luxury housing and entertainment, and huge land for industries and other establishments, then why could 2,000 acres not be acquired for housing for poor people.
He said that the government would construct 2BHK flats on the acquired lands. (INN)
