Telangana Health Director Dr G Srinivas Rao today said that there were 12,178 active cases of the coronavirus, only 1% death rate and a recovery rate of 65.48% in the state.
Rao also said that of the 17,000+ beds in the various hospitals, only about 10% were occupied and the remaining 90% were vacant.
He added that 85% of the people who had tested positive had no symptoms of the virus.
Addressing a press conference at the Directorate of Public Health office, Rao said that the government was committed to providing the best possible services to Covid patients, and that the patients should visit the government hospitals for treatment instead of private hospitals.
His remarks gain significance as private hospitals are said to be looting coronavirus patients, levying huge charges by violating government norms.
Rao added that there were 9,768 active patients under home isolation, and that those for whom home isolation wasn't possible could go to hospitals for isolation.
The cases in the state were on the rise due to enhanced public movement following the easing of the lockdown curbs in the state, Rao opined. He asked people to avoid panicking and get quick health services by calling 104 and other numbers.
Telangana has had about 36,200 total cases of the coronavirus so far.
