Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Zone) Madhusudhan Reddy, on Thursday, expressed his shock and indignation at a group of Peace Committee members at the Charminar.
Reddy said he was shocked to see that a group of Peace Committee members had assembled at the historic Charminar at 3:30pm, just before the
verdict on the Babri Masjid title suit was to be delivered, and were busy talking to the media persons there.
The DCP asked the gathering the reason behind their assembling there, in the light of Section 144 in place. The group identified themselves as Peace Committee members, and said that they were working for peace.
The answer left Reddy dumb-founded. He pulled them up and told them that if they were indeed working for peace in the city, they should have been touring the various localities in batches, talking to people and building confidence about the security measures in place.
The DCP told them to stop posing for the media, and wondered if they really were interested in the welfare of the city and its residents.
The Peace Committee members claimed that they had conducted tours in sensitive areas in the Old City.
