Popular Telugu writer Avasarala Rama Krishna Rao died in Visakhapatnam on Friday.

The 80-year-old writer was unwell for some time.

Born in Chennai in 1931, Rao inspired 2 generations of writers through his short stories and novels. His writings were based on women's liberation.

He has the rare distinction of the illustrious Chandamama magazine publishing his story in its inaugural issue in 1947.

"Sannajajulu" and "Sampengalu" (both names of flowers) were among his famous works.
