Congress MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy faulted the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who extended his support to GST earlier than anybody else in the nation to please Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for criticising the Centre now.
Reddy said that the Congress had been saying since the beginning what KCR was now saying. The NDA government had imposed huge taxes on the people of the nation through GST, he pointed out, formulating it without considering its impact on the middle and poor classes.
However, KCR had found fault with the Congress MLAs and MLCs when they had criticised the Prime Minister in the Legislative Assembly and Council, Reddy said, and was now making the same criticisms. KCR was an opportunistic politician who enacted various dramas depending upon what suited him at a specific time, he alleged.
TPCC vice-president Mallu Ravi, too, alleged that KCR was adopting double standards over GST, and wondered how the CM, who routinely criticised the opposition parties as demons whenever they agitated against his government, would now wage a movement against the Centre on GST. Reminding people that KCR had removed Dharna Chowk from the city, he said that the shoe was on the other foot now and wondered whether KCR would at all find it moral to go on an agitational mode himself.
