Claiming that the common people were scared of going to government hospitals in the State any more after the continuous deaths of women in government hospitals, four Congress women leaders demanded that the Telangana Health Minister Dr. Cherlakola Laxma Reddy immediately resign owning moral responsibility.
The Congress women leaders D K Aruna, Sabitha Indra Reddy, Sunitha Laxma Reddy and Nerella Sharada, along with others, visited the Koti Maternity Hospital on Monday. Speaking to the media later, they said that the Chief Minister and Health Minister should feel ashamed of the pathetic conditions prevailing in Telangana's government hospitals, and charged the TRS government with criminally neglecting the upkeep of the government hospitals for the last three years.
The state government was resorting to steps like
distributing pink bedsheets to the government hospitals just for publicity and to distract, they alleged, and said that if the TRS leaders visited Koti Maternity Hospital they would know the ground realities in the hospitals.
They also alleged that the Hospital Superintendent disappeared upon knowing about their visit to the hospital. "The doctors were not bothering even when water was leaking from the stitches after surgical operations. Some 350 patients are visiting every day but the hospital has only 150 beds. The hospital staff expressed helplessness over the lack of facilities in the hospital," they added.
