Congress leader and MP A Revanth Reddy today launched a Rs 5 meal distribution program at Hyderabad's Gandhi Hospital which will provide meals not only to the Covid-19 patients and their attendants but also to the doctors and paramedical staff employed at the hospital.
Speaking on the occasion, Reddy said that the scheme would prepare 1,000 meals a day for the benefit of all those at the healthcare facility. He also added that the program had been launched following the orders of the party's national President Sonia Gandhi.
"Our party has decided to launch this meal program to support the healthcare workers who are toiling day and night to treat Covid patients, and for the benefit of the patients themselves. Their attendants too have been facing difficulties after the imposition of
the lockdown in the state. We hope that the program, which charges a nominal Rs 5 to each beneficiary, will help all three groups," the MP explained.
Commenting on the KCR government's handling of the pandemic, he alleged, "The state government has failed to do anything for the Covid patients and their families. It did not do much for the people of the state during the first wave either. Unlike the TRS, our party has taken up several programs to provide relief to the public. Instead of supporting these efforts, the KCR government has been arresting NSUI leaders in order to obstruct our relief work."
"The negligent attitude of the government is made evident made by the state of the Gandhi Hospital which does not even have the most basic amenities despite being Covid speciality hospital. Further, there is also a paucity of medical oxygen, Remdesivir injections, and hospital beds in our state. The government's Covid-19 task force has not done anything to address these issues. Instead, it is busy receiving kickbacks from various pharmaceutical companies," the leader fumed.
He also expressed his displeasure at the delay in the completion of the
vaccination drive in Telangana and the rest of the country.
"Telangana will not be administering any vaccines for the next two days as there is an acute shortage of vaccines in the state. The Centre has been unable to procure vaccines in a timely fashion which has derailed the immunisation process across India," Reddy claimed.
In another part of the state, Mulugu MLA Seethakka today came to the rescue of the poor in her constituency.
The leader handed over a kit containing several essential commodities to 35 families affected by Covid-19 in Govind Rao mandal's Dumpilla Gudem and Ram Nagar villages during a tour.
She also visited the families of Sampati Uppaliah, Ajmira Jagini, and Porika Hanmanthu, who had succumbed to Covid 19 recently, and expressed her condolences to the bereaved.
