Congress MP A Revanth Reddy today lashed out at the Hyderabad police after some police personnel allegedly "hindered" the party's ongoing Covid-19 relief work in the city's Begumpet area.
He claimed that when he was overseeing the distribution of food to Covid-19 patients and their family members at the Gandhi Hospital and along the Secunderabad railway station, the police came and stopped him from doing so.
The police reportedly told Reddy that he was not supposed to be out and about during the
lockdown hours. This led to an argument between him and the officials, and he asked them how they could stop an MP from carrying out relief work which was part of his "duties" as an elected representative.
The MP also shared a video of his confrontation with a police officer in Begumpet, and wondered what authority the state government had to prevent a democratically elected leader from working as an elected representative.
Claiming that the incident highlighted the KCR regime's "apathy" towards the plight of the public, he added, "The Telangana government's inhuman ways seem to have reached a new zenith. It is now trying to stop me from providing food to needy patients and their families at Gandhi Hospital and to people around the Secunderabad rail station. Further, I was also stopped from overseeing the works at a hospital that is being turned into a Covid facility in the city's cantonment area. This is just cheap politics."
Reddy recently launched a Rs 5
meal distribution program at the Gandhi Hospital to provide meals not only to the Covid-19 patients and their attendants but also to the doctors and paramedical staff employed at the hospital.
