Congress Slams Laxma Reddy's Remarks About Nerella

The party said that the health minister's clarification that the Nerella victims were discharged by the NIMS doctors was completely false.
Hyderabad | 10th September 2017
Condemning Health Minister C Laxma Reddy's remarks against the Congress regarding the medical treatment of the Nerella victims, Congress leader V Hanumantha Rao said that the Congress would launch relay hunger strikes on the Nerella issue, and that 20 Congress activists from each district would participate in the strikes.

The veteran Congress leader was referring to the statements by Reddy that the NIMS doctors had conducted all necessary tests on the six patients from Nerella brought there by the Congress leaders, and had discharged them after deciding that they did not need to be admitted as in-patients, but that the Congress was politicizing the issue by spreading canards that the villagers were refused treatment and that the police had been summoned to throw them out. The police had arrived since the Congress leaders had resorted to a loud dharna, Reddy had said.

Speaking to the media in response, VHR, as he is popularly known, said, "The TPCC working president Bhatti Vikramarka and I admitted some of the Nerella victims in NIMS. The NIMS doctors made it clear that the former sarpanch needed a surgery. But the government threw the Nerella victims out of the hospital using police force. Other Congress leaders and I staged a dharna for an hour but there was no response from the government. The government also obstructed admission of the Nerella victims in Care Hospital. I never saw incidents like turning patients out from a hospital at midnight."

It was sad that the injuries suffered by the Nerella victims were not yet cured. IT Minister K T Rama Rao had given several assurances to the victims of Nerella in the Vemulavada hospital, but had not fulfilled even a single assurance, he alleged.

He demanded that the state government own up responsibility for the deaths of the Nerella villagers. The incident in Nerella was true, and the state government was defending it, he alleged.

The government had also failed to initiate action against any sand lorry or drivers though the Congress had raised the issue several times, he said.
