Environmental Pollution Prevention and Control Authority (EPCA) chairman Bhure Lal on Wednesday stated that compressed natural gas (CNG) will be available in the city from April 15, through 14 stations.
Speaking after inspecting the Bhagyanagar Gas Company at Shameerpet to ensure that the plant meets the stringent safety norms set by the EPCA, the chairman said that CNG would be about 25% to 30% cheaper than diesel, besides being environment-friendly. The Bhagyanagar Gas Limited will supply 60,000 standard cubic metres of CNG daily through a 250km pipeline.
He pointed out that the Delhi government has declared diesel a major pollutant, and has taken measures to make people opt for alternative fuels. CNG has emerged as the major alternative to diesel in the national capital, and has gone a long way in decreasing pollution levels there, he added.
Dr. Lal said that about 40,000 auto-rickshaws run on LPG, while only 3,000 run on CNG. He added that the EPCA foresees that other automobiles will switch over to using CNG since this will become more affordable for them.
The EPCA Chairman also added that the Andhra Pradesh Road Transport Corporation has already ordered 350 CNG buses.
Dr. Bhure Lal appealed to the state government to forego VAT and other taxes so that CNG can become even more affordable, thus making more people switch over to its usage. He added that the Delhi and Gujarat governments have also given tax concessions to CNG plants, with a view to control pollution levels.
The EPCA Chairman also urged petrol pumps in the city to allocate space so that CNG-dispensing units may be set up on their premises.
Dr. Bhure Lal said that special care will be taken to ensure that CNG kits to be fitted in 3-wheelers and 4-wheelers meet all safety norms.
He also revealed that plans to supply cooking gas for domestic use are in the offing, by the same company.
The EPCA has been formed by the Union Government on the orders of the Supreme Court of India, to control pollution.

More and more CNG cars are sold but no new CNG stations are added. It takes a minimum of 2.5 hours nowadays to get CNG. Rate per kg has gone up to 46.50. Earlier it was 42. If this still goes up, then it is better to opt for diesel cars rather than wait for 3 hrs in the queue to get CNG.
They have urged filling stations to leave space for CNG. but i still i see no where near kukatpally or hitech-city area any CNG station. Please start plants in hyd so that availability will be high so that no need to wait sooo long hours in queue for that 6-7 kgs of CNG.
I got New Wagon R CNG last Nov 2011. Till day I did not fill CNG in my car due to unavailability of CNG filling station at Miyapur and surroundings. The AP Govt should take action on Promoting of CNG in Hyderabad city by running APSRTC buses in City.
I have got a new Wagon R CNG car, I am enjoying with CNG fuel, gives me 22 in city and 30 in highway and u can't get a better cheaper than this but when it comes to filling its really ....... i don't have any words to say. It takes me mini of 2 hours and that too i need travel amost 14kms away from home for filling. AP Govt will not increase this fill stations since they get very less amount on that. AP Govt will come into picture only when they get some amount in their kitty. So the bottomline i feel is CNG filling stations will not be increased and please please dont buy CNG car's. Better go for LPG or diesel cars..
I request you all pls dont buy cng kits or cars and suffer in hyd. Now a days it is almost taking 3 to 4 hrs to fill your car with CNG i am suffering like any thing I had this bad experiance here in hyd lb nagar hasthinapuram nagole and balapur
we dont know where cng avialble in hyderabad pls mail where its avialble pls

CNG filling experience is terrible in hyderabad and secunderabad. We got to wait for atleast 30 minutes for a paltry fill of 7-8 kgs and by the time we reach home half the fuel is burnt.Especially for people living in Moulali, ECIL, Kushaiguda,Dr AS Rao Nagar, Sainikpuri, Neredment,AOC, Safilguda, Tirumalgiri there is not even a single CNG bunk in vicinity. This area atleast deserves 3-4 CNG stations and unfortunately the BGL / Govt didnt see a need for it. Thanks to the planning and execution team of BGL. I stand surprised, since for the last few years iam going through this daily trauma
