BRS working president K T Rama Rao today said that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy was aware that the case registered against him by the Telangana ACB in connection with the Formula E race lacked merit.
Speaking informally with the media at Telangana Bhavan, KTR dismissed the case as trivial.
"I haven't changed my stance on the race issue. I stand by what I said," he added.
KTR explained that he had directed officials to fund the race in his capacity as a State minister. "If the payment wasn't made according to the rules, why didn't the government approach the ED or RBI? Why weren't cases filed against those who handled the money? The government is trying to intimidate me with cases. The ED is aggressively pursuing the case as part of a propaganda. I have received a notice from the ED, and am prepared to face things. I am challenging the FIR. We will present our case in court," KTR said.
KTR also alleged that the BJP was shielding the Telangana's Chief Minister's own corruption. "Why isn't the Centre investigating the AMRUT and civil supplies scams? The Centre is complicit in the State government's corruption," he said.
On the occasion, KTR also accused the Congress of discriminating against former Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao, "a son of Telangana". "Why hasn't the Assembly passed a resolution to build a memorial for PVR in Delhi?" he asked, and vowed that the BRS would continue to fight in the Rajya Sabha until Rao received the respect he deserved.
Responding to the Congress' criticism of BRS president K Chandrashekar Rao's absence from the Assembly, KTR said, "He worked tirelessly for 24 years. He is currently taking some rest."
