The YSR Congress Party on Thursday requested Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to disqualify Nandyal MP S P Y Reddy.
In his representation submitted to the Speaker, YSRCP Parliamentary party leader Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy said that S P Y Reddy had been elected to the 16th Lok Sabha on a YSRCP ticket.
However, he had abandoned the YSRCP to join the Telugu Desam Party on May 25.
He said that S P Y Reddy's action of joining TDP after being elected on a YSRCP ticket breached the provisions of Clause 2 (1) (A) of the 10th Schedule to the Constitution of India, and consequently he was liable to be disqualified as a member of the Lok Sabha.
Speaking to media persons after meeting the Speaker along with other party MPs, Mekapati said that Sumitra Mahajan had assured them that she would take action as per the rules. (INN)
