The women's wing of the Telangana Congress today held a dharna in front of the Gandhi Bhavan, alleging that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was "insulting" the women of Telangana by neglecting their welfare.
They sat on the main road outside the Congress' headquarters and raised slogans against the CM. They also held up brooms and hoes in their hands to show their dissatisfaction with the alleged lack of employment opportunities for women in the state.
Speaking on the occasion, the Mahila Congress leaders claimed that the CM was not even "thinking about generating employment opportunities" for women.
Taking a hit at the government's sheep distribution program, they asserted that they did not need buffaloes or sheep but jobs to eke out resectable livings and to look after their families.
Mocking those in power, the protestors alleged that those who did not even have proper educational qualifications were working as ministers in the Telangana Cabinet.
State Mahila Congress chief Sunitha Rao alleged that KCR had come up with the Dalit Bandhu scheme only to secure electoral benefits for the TRS in the upcoming by-election in the Huzurabad constituency.
She demanded that the CM implement a 'mahila bandhu' scheme as well if he was at all committed to protecting the interests of the women in Telangana.
The leader added that lakhs of people had lost their jobs due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and that there were no new jobs to support these newly unemployed persons.
As tensions in the area soared, the police reached the protest venue and arrested the Mahila Congress leaders.
