The High Court has ordered a CBI probe into the alleged police torture of Yakub Reddy, a research scholar of Kakatiya University.
The division bench, comprising Justice Ghulam Ahmed and Justice K G Shankar, on Thursday, directed the CBI to conduct a thorough enquiry into the incident and submit a comprehensive report within 3 months.
Yakub Reddy was arrested by the Warangal police in connection with a dharna, by JAC students, in front of Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah's house, last year, and according to a JAC report, he was brutally tortured in the name of investigation.
The severely injured Yakub Reddy was first admitted to Mahatma Gandhi Medical Hospital, Warangal, and was later transferred to Yashoda Hospital in Hyderabad for advanced treatment.
Earlier, following a complaint lodged by the Telangana Lawyers JAC, the State Human Rights Commission had asked for a detailed report from the state DGP on the incident. (INN)
